Annelise, better known as Anna, holds a Master of Counselling from City University and a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from the University of British Columbia. She has previously worked as an intern counsellor for a local non-profit. Prior to her counselling career, Anna was a competitive athlete and occupied various coaching and leadership roles with both adults and youth, which informs her counselling practice. Anna’s counselling interests include anxiety, self-esteem, relationships, body image, trauma, people-pleasing & perfectionism, and anti-oppressive work.
"I see the therapy room as a space to find empowerment for clients who are experiencing trauma, isolation, and/or disconnect within themselves, their relationships, and their environments. I honour the courage and vulnerability it takes to make the decision to come to therapy, and my goal is to create a safe and compassionate space wherein clients feel they can explore and process their experiences and inner dialogue free from judgment. I view the work of therapy from a systemic perspective, recognizing that our patterns and experiences are created in context – within the systems of family, culture, society, or others. This perspective also recognizes that the client is a unique individual within these systems, with realities and experiences that are singular to them. It also allows for anti-oppressive & feminist lenses to come into our work together, as a way to understand the intersection of unique identities & the various systems that impact an individual's physical, mental, and emotional health. My style is collaborative and conversational, prioritizing client exploration while leaving space for curiosity and carefully directed guidance. Clients can also expect an emphasis on accessing and processing immediate emotional experiences in session. I believe the client has all the tools already within them to make meaningful change, and that my role is to support the client in uncovering their own strengths and best practices - which are unique to everyone. I am a practitioner that integrates many therapeutic approaches to suit the client and context, leaning most heavily on Person-Centred, Emotion-Focused, Cognitive-Behavioural, Somatic, and Adlerian therapies."
